Test center closings due to COVID-19 (coronavirus)   

Where local guidance permits, Massachusetts-based Pearson VUE-owned test centers (PPCs) have resumed administering the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure.  Test centers are open for appointments throughout Massachusetts.

We encourage you to check for test center availability prior to registration by using the appointment availability tool. Test centers that are open will appear in the appointment availability tool and during the scheduling process.

When searching for an appointment to take your test, we offer the following suggestions: 

  • Widen the area of your search and extend the date range of your search as this will provide more appointment options for your selection.  
  • Due to current social distancing guidelines and demand for appointments, you should schedule your test appointment as soon as you are able find a date and location that works for you.
  • You can change your test appointment with no fee, even multiple times, as long as the change is made at least 24 hours in advance of your current appointment time and before your registration expires.  
  • Additional appointments may become available after you have scheduled an initial appointment. If you were unable to initially schedule your preferred date and time, you should check seat availability frequently and, if you find a preferred date or location, change your appointment to meet your preferences. 
  • Online proctoring will become available for select MTEL tests starting this fall; if your test is administered via online proctoring, consider taking your test online.

As COVID-19 continues to spread globally, our first priority is the health and safety for employees and candidates and Pearson VUE test centers are complying with all state and local guidance. In addition, testing centers will be cleaning testing stations after each administration. 

Pearson is regularly updating COVID-19 information on a dedicated webpage, which has important candidate information regarding processes and procedures at the test center including, “What candidates need to know” and “Health and safety measures at Pearson VUE test centers.”

Please check this website and your email often as circumstances continue to change.  

If you have not received email notification of your test appointment being changed, you should plan to attend, as many of our partner sites, some of which may be located at colleges and universities, are making the determination to close or remain open based on their state and local guidance.

Please note that only test centers that are open will appear in the seat availability tool and during the scheduling process. Test availability is based on our current working knowledge of openings and may be subject to change.

If you are ill on the day of your test appointment:   

Do not report to the test center.  If you miss your appointment due to illness, please review the absentee policy for emergency circumstances, which includes information about requesting a refund.   

If your appointment was rescheduled by Pearson, you may withdraw your registration for a full refund.
