Foundations of Reading (190)

Registration is now open for the redeveloped Foundations of Reading test:

  • for computer-based testing starting February 8, 2021.
  • for online-proctored testing starting March 1, 2021.

Format
Computer-based test (CBT) and online proctored test; 100 multiple-choice questions and 2 open-response assignments
Time
Computer-Based Testing
4 hours and 15 minutes total appointment time
  • 15 minutes for CBT tutorial and nondisclosure agreement
  • 4 hours testing time
Online Proctoring
4 hours and 15 minutes total appointment time
  • 15 minutes for CBT tutorial and nondisclosure agreement
  • 2 hours 30 minutes for the multiple-choice questions
  • 15 minutes for optional break
  • 1 hour 30 minutes for the open-response assignments

You may take restroom breaks during testing. Time taken for breaks is considered part of the available testing time.

Score Reporting
Score reports will be delayed due to standard-setting activities and determination of qualifying scores by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Scores will be released upon the completion of these activities.

 

Computer-Based Testing
Candidates will receive a receipt of completion at the conclusion of their test center appointment.
Online Proctoring
Candidates taking an online-proctored test will not receive a receipt of completion when their test ends.
Notes
This test includes written assignments that may require use of an on-screen character selector for inserting special characters into written responses.

Tests may include questions that will not count toward candidates' scores. These questions are placed on the test to collect information about how well they perform under actual testing conditions.

Breaks in Online-Proctored Testing

When taking this test in an online-proctored appointment, examinees will receive a 15-minute break after the multiple-choice section and before the open-response section. Note that after this break you will begin the open-response assignments and you will no longer have access to the multiple-choice questions.
