July 1, 2019 Licensure changes for Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics

On June 27, 2017, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to approve regulation changes impacting educator licensure, program approval, and license renewal. As of July 1, 2019, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) will no longer be offering Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics licenses at the 5–8 grade levels, with the exception of individuals who already have an application on file and who have met all requirements prior to July 1, 2019. Instead, individuals must apply for their Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics licenses at the 8–12 grade levels.

For general information about which test(s) are required for a license, visit the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, MTEL website link opens in a new window.
