Is Computer-Based testing Right For Me?
You may want to consider computer-based testing (CBT) if you want to
- take the Communication and Literacy Skills test (either or both subtests) or the Foundations of Reading test;
- read and answer multiple-choice items on computer;
- type your responses to the open-response items on the test;
- take the test in Boston, Springfield, Waltham, or Worcester;
- take the test outside of Massachusetts;
- take the test on a weekday or Saturday;
- take the test on a day or in a month when there is no scheduled paper-based test administration;
- schedule your test appointment for a time that is convenient for you.
Before registering for a computer-based test, you should note the following:
- There is an additional computer-based testing fee of $25 per test appointment.
- Registration for computer-based testing is by Internet only; payment must be made by VISA or MasterCard.
- Test appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
- You must wait 60 days after taking a computer-based test/subtest before retaking the same test/subtest on computer.
Considering CBT? Check out the tutorial preview.
At the test center, candidates are given an on-screen tutorial that demonstrates how to navigate through the test, how to indicate answers, and how to use the features of a computer-based test. Sample screens from this tutorial are presented in the tutorial preview.
